First released on the Playstation 2 in 2002, it was one of the more popular titles of the year.

The "Crash Bandicoot" style of gameplay alongside a smooth plotline made for a fun game, even if many of its features had been done before by other games (one of which being the aforementioned Crash Bandicoot series). Sly Raccoon, however, was one if the first stealth games that could be enjoyed by gamers of all ages, in a time when Metal Gear was very much a grownups game. The characters were all very unique, and the willingness to break boundaries made it all the more interesting; the game was released as a "3+", but did what many other games were too scared to do: actually mention death, if only in passing. And despite this willingness to push the envelope, the game still had a fun, cartoon-like theme, and your remain very much a "good guy" despite your role as a thief, since you spend much of your time stealing from and foiling the plots of bigtime criminals.

All in all, a wonderful game. The environments are engaging, the graphics were very good quality for games around its release date, the characters were all very fun (though some a little two-dimentional) and all the little side-missions meant you'd be going back long after you'd finished the main plot. Even five years down the line, it's still very worth of an 8.5/10.
